PROVENGE is a newly FDA-approved treatment that stimulates the immune system to provide protection against prostate cancer. It is a 3 dose infusion that stimulates a patient’s immune system to target and attack prostate cancer. Dr. Douglas A. Swartz is one of the few Urologists in the Southeast approved to administer the Provenge therapy. The infusions are administered in the Baptist hospital newly remodeled infusion center in the Baptist Pavilion. Provenge is made from the patient's own immune cells which are collected at a cell collection center approximately 3 days before each scheduled infusion. Currently, the FDA has approved the medication for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer that has become hormone refractory in patients who have minimal symptoms from the disease.
